السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته
All the signals and inter tripping signals between our power station Control center and the receiving end at load side are transmitted via optical fiber cable (OPGW)
Thus this system is considered as the soul of our control system
This OPGW travels as overhead line for 14km and just before the load end it changes over to underground cable through a junction box
Yesterday at around mid night I faced the following disaster
We received at our central room that our master computer could not address the control center at the other end
As a result we could not read or know or control anything at the load end
This include knowing the status of the circuit breakers and isolators, the actual current , power or voltage drawn by the load
In addition we could not receive any protection alarms and above all losing all the inter tripping signals between both ends
First of all we suspected that our fiber optic converter is defected
when we checked the alarm messages at our control center and at load end control center indicating that “ Optic power in is lower than receiver sensitivity” meaning that our control center could not receive any data from the load end and also the control center at the load end could not receive any data from our side since the power of the transmitted data is very low
At this point our doubts were forwarded towards the OPGW cable it self
We conducted an intensive check on the OPGW route and we were surprised that someone thinking that this cable is copper wired cut the cable at the point where there is a junction box
Yesterday I was full of anger so I decided to share this experience with you
I wonder if any one of you went through such experience and if anyone could tell me how to repair such damage
